On the NorthBay Experience:

Trusha Shah, a Computer Science major at Dalhousie University who will graduate this December, knows that applications have the power to transform how we live and work for the better. That’s why she chose to complete her third and final co-op internship at NorthBay Solutions. Read on to learn more about Trusha.

Tell us about your previous co-op experiences:

My first internship was with CGI in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I worked in the agile development team where I got hands-on experience with database problem resolution and data extracts. After that, at University of Waterloo, I helped out with implementing record and replay in Android automated testing.

Why did you choose NorthBay for your third and final co-op internship?

The emphasis on AWS, data migrations, and ML/AI services excited me, as did the opportunity to collaborate with experienced developers in a dynamic environment. I’m hoping to work in software development after graduation, and the NorthBay Co-op Program aligned perfectly with my career goals.

Speaking of goals, what were yours going into the internship?

Getting as much as practical experience in building and maintaining applications as possible.

Tell us about the projects you worked on:

Well, I worked on multiple projects including automated data lakes, custom AWS applications, and web scraping services running on AWS.

It sure sounds like your experience was a productive one. What was the best part?

The opportunity to work collaboratively with skilled developers and engineers on actual client projects. The exposure to cloud technologies, such as AWS, and the chance to contribute to data and application migrations were particularly rewarding. I’m 100% confident that this experience will help me land my dream job in software development.

What advice would you give to future Co-op students?

To future Co-op students, I would suggest actively seeking opportunities to engage with and learn from mentors and team members. Don't hesitate to ask questions. Through active participation in projects, continuous learning, and effective communication with NorthBay mentors I achieved every goal I set for myself, and more. Stay curious and open-minded, and you will too!
