Meet Our Customer
Evisions, based in Irvine, California, provides data modernization and data analysis solutions designed to help organizations work better by more easily accessing and getting decision-making insights from their data, faster. The company has more than 900 clients worldwide in industries including higher education, utilities, and government.
Challenge
For over 20 years, Evisions has provided on-premises tools to colleges and universities for accessing and leveraging student and administrative data. “We have very loyal clients, and they make clear the challenges they are facing, and how Evisions can best help them navigate the future,” said Joe Potenza, president and chief executive officer of Evisions.
That’s why the company made the decision to double-down on digital transformation. “We are committed to innovating with cloud-based delivery models in order to greatly improve how schools access and rely on their data—in ways that both protect and extend the significant technology investments they’ve already made,” added Joe.
Vision
Many frontline workers and decision makers at learning institutions are not technology experts. Evisions sought to help those decision makers find information quickly, instead of them spending months trying to get answers from data. “Doubling down on data modernization initiatives would ensure that our products are compatible with a wider variety of solutions, while also providing our clients a smooth glide path to the cloud,” said Peter Wilbur, technical product manager at Evisions.
Solution
To successfully embark on this initiative, Evisions knew the importance of finding the right partner. After an extensive evaluation of multiple consulting firms, they chose NorthBay Solutions because the company offered the most advanced technology and comprehensive experience running on AWS. As an Amazon Web Services (AWS) Premier Consulting Partner in the AWS Partner Network (APN) and a member of the Public Sector Partner Program, NorthBay Solutions enables institutions to transform by moving their critical data to the cloud.
NorthBay Solutions helped Evisions create an AWS-based transformative platform boasting a new data ingestion layer, a software-as-a-service data lake, and a data consumption and access application. These capabilities enable learning institutions to expand data access more broadly across campus and automate repeatable tasks, allowing their technology and data experts to solve more pressing problems.
The scope of the engagement included transforming two key solutions: Evisions Doris and Evisions CADMUS.
Evisions DORIS is a cloud-based solution designed to ensure the data being used is clean, consistent, and focused. It provides assurance that the data on which decisions are based can be trusted – time after time and regardless of what, or how many, data sources are used. Based on AWS Lambda functions, DORIS is a serverless data model that automatically ingests institutional data, which is then sent to an enterprise data lake.
Step one for NorthBay Solutions was to automate the collection and submission of Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) survey data, and allow institutional researchers to leverage that same clean source data for other insights.
Step two was to help build the serverless data lake (S3, Glue, step functions, Lamda).
Step three was to help create Evisions CADMUS. CADMUS is a data access and reporting solution that allows users to quickly and securely query data and create, combine, and extend data collections. As a result, customers can connect their current Evisions toolset as one of the data source options.
